Lady Snowblood

Sat down to re-watch Lady Snowblood, a classic Japanese film form the 70's, with Ruth recently. She has never seen it and I forget how similar it is to Kill Bill. For anyone who has not seen either there is no denying where Quentin Tarantino got his inspiration for his Kill Bill films. Everything from the plot to the non-sequential narrative framing of chapters, down to the music and old master that trains the main protagonist Yuki. 

An ultra-violent bloody masterpiece written by Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub) It comes highly recommended for anyone into samurai films or want to see how much Tarantino plagiarized or pays homage to this film and it's sequel. You can find it on Hulu under the Criterion Collection, but don't wait too long because word is Hulu is losing the CC soon.                                                                   

Mice And Mystics: The Heroes

These are the heroes from the board game Mice and Mystics by Plaid Hat Games designed by Jerry Hawthorne. The color schemes are standard, the look of each character based on their respective card artwork.

 I painted these over two years ago and finally managed to get photos of everything. Overall, considering these are only about 5/8 inch tall, I am satisfied with how they turned out. 

Starting on a new miniature paint job for my brother's Shadows over Camelot as soon as I find the time.

V-Day cards: circa 2012

I always forget about the existence of the cards I draw, until someone reminds me... Here are some Valentine's cards I doodled for my coworkers back in 2012. Mostly inside jokes, recipient interests or discussions about pop culture.

Ragnar Starbeard and the Hutt's Cache

Ruth's reaction to me using the drill at 9 pm. As she screamed at me, brushing her teeth in the doorway, toothpaste shooting from her mouth, I couldn't help but notice in that moment her uncanny resemblance to Selacious B. Crumb. The inspiration for this setup is from the Bill Watterson comic Calvin and Hobbes, notably the Spaceman Spiff strips. In it Calvin imagines the events of his mundane life as an alter ego space explorer named Spaceman Spiff.

ZMR-B0

A co-worker and I somehow arrived at this design based on a discussion of his passion for dropping elbows on everything. Which evolved into a Gundam whose primary attack is elbow dropping. The end result is this fearsome mech with tiny arms named ZMR-B0, a combination of my co-worker's last name, and the -bow in elbow.

ZMR-B0 could also double as an arm wrestling mech.    

When There Is No More Room In Hell...You Can Wait With A Game Of Zombie Cribbage?

For Christmas, Sarbob thoughtfully gifted Ruth and I with this bizarre zombie version of Cribbage. I was excited to find out there were miniatures for which to paint. The ones pictured below is how they look out of the box. Now I just need to learn how to play Cribbage. 

This is more or less what the four miniatures looked like before primer. Some weathered green/grey coating that makes them appear as statues. First step was to coat them with white flat acrylic spray paint. None of the steps are pictured, cut to, end result. I've always been a fan of the pale blue zombie makeup from Romero's Dawn of the Dead, so I went with that look, They all barely measure an inch tall and there is little detail to pick out since the molding is low quality. Given the circumstances, I am pleased with how they turned out.

Ruth picked out the colors for the Cyndi Lauper and Roy Harper from the CW Arrow.
